March madness has arrived and I'm not referring to basketball! If you're like me, the year is moving along way too fast. This email is NOT intended to add to your to-do list, but rather to provide you with up-to-the-minute information on Dry Creek Vineyard in 2016. Sort of a "State of the Union" address without all the political mumbo jumbo…

As we head into springtime, watch for our 2016 Wine for Sailors program. This year's POS materials will feature a fresh new look to help your customers "Sail into Summer". Items will ship in April. Once again, we are producing a limited edition custom sailboat model, The Endeavour, to help build those eye catching retail displays.

We are also launching a secondary campaign for landlocked states to promote our leadership in Sustainability. This program includes case wraps, shelf talkers and a limited number of actual, aka real, old Zinfandel vines turned into displays. My husband Don is personally collecting these from historic vineyards! These materials complement our Dry Creek Valley Soil Kit and Topo Maps which are available to help tell the unique story of the Dry Creek Valley AVA.

This fall, we will be repeating our Mariner Club Incentive. This tiered program, providing a variety of prizes, culminates in a trip to CA that includes a Meritage blending challenge, sailing on SF Bay, vineyard tours, cooking competitions and more. Our 2015 winners just left the winery with memories that will last a lifetime.

In winemaking news, we continue to invest in planting exciting new clones to provide complex nuances to our wines. For example, Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Musqué enhance our Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The Primitivo and St. Peter’s Church Clones round out our Zinfandels. And, we will soon be planting Durif (Petite Sirah), Clones 4 and 6, to add structure and depth. 

Another innovation is our use of Chestnut and Acacia barrels in very judicious amounts to add mouthfeel and body to our Sauvignon Blanc program.  Winemaker Tim Bell is doing a terrific job and like me, is never content to rest on our laurels.  The bar continues to be raised here at Dry Creek Vineyard!

Finally, let's talk wine scores. While wine reviews aren't everything, it sure feels good to receive continued glowing praise from the pundits. If you haven't seen the latest Robert Parker scores on our 2013 reds, you're in for a nice surprise!
